Developing Patience can be one of the most challenging obstacles for a child to overcome.
There is one thing a child just doesn't have yet. They cannot predict the results of their work in the future!
In other words, unlike most adults, a child won't think: "We'll I can't perform this technique today, but I'm sure that if I practice this for a few more days it will get easier." Quite the opposite. Most children will get frustrated if the don't get immediate results and they will too easily conclude that they are just not good enough for this activity (and it doesn't matter if the activity is Karate, Baseball, Music lessons, etc).
This is a big deal! This is where many children create a self image that is actually very harmful, and sets a negative pattern for the rest of their lives!
We can help.
This is a matter of having any teacher or instructor that works with your child be able to show your child that there actually is some progress today. It's a matter of helping the child have realistic expectations about what can be accomplished today, and how many days or weeks or months it might take to master a larger task.
The good news is that in Karate, any move or technique can be broken down into small, manageable "bites" that even the most insecure child can accomplish. Little by little the child now starts to see himself or herself moving steadily towards their goal.
If your child lacks patience, we can help!
